About Mellendith Shift
Healthcare facilities already have relationships with the per-diem and PRN clinicians who help them cover shifts. Mellendith Shift exists to make those relationships easier to manage — not to replace them with a marketplace of strangers.
The problem we saw
Traditional staffing agencies typically charge facilities a 35-50% markup over a clinician's base wage for every shift they fill. On a single 12-hour shift, that can mean $200 to $350 or more in markup alone — money that goes to the agency, not toward better staffing outcomes.
Most facilities already have their own pool of per-diem clinicians they trust. The problem was never a lack of relationships — it was a lack of software to manage those relationships well: knowing who's available, tracking credentials, filling shifts quickly without a phone tree, and having a safety net for when internal coverage genuinely isn't enough.
How we think about it
Mellendith Shift is built around a simple idea: your internal pool should always get the first opportunity to fill a shift. Only when that window closes without a match does a shift escalate to a broader open board. This isn't a marketplace that profits from every shift filled — it's software that helps you run the staffing relationships you already have, with an automatic backup for when you need one.
What that means in practice
- Facilities pay one flat monthly subscription — not a percentage of every shift filled.
- Clinicians use the platform for free and keep their full posted rate.
- Credential and license safeguards are built in, not bolted on.
- The platform never contacts a clinician about a shift they haven't applied to.
Where we're headed
Mellendith Shift is early-stage and built by a small, focused team. We'd rather ship something genuinely useful for a facility managing its own staffing than chase every feature a large enterprise system might have.
